The Folk Dance Scene for June 2003
Jump to: Regularly scheduled events
Mel Mann announces and update about his popular DANCE ON THE WATER folk dance cruises for 2003. Unfortunately the 18th Annual Alaska folk dance cruise that was scheduled for July 23 has been canceled by the cruiseline since they lost the use of their ship. Through the year 2003 and for the past 22 years use of the ship has been shared by the University of Pittsburgh (who ran the Semesters at Sea) and the World Explorer Cruiseline who during school breaks used the ship to sail in Alaska and the Caribbean. This year the university decided to retain usage year round. Negotiations to lease another ship recently broke down and as a result World Explorer will use the year 2003 to locate another ship to resume operating beginning in 2004.Signups for the Yangtze River/China folk dance cruise are going very well and only five cabins remain in the groups allocation. This popular bargain cruise will begin on June 16 and end July 3rd. It is an all inclusive package trip for $3348 per person and includes round trip flight to China from SF (and other west coast major ports) and 8 day cruise on the Yangtze River viewing the Three Gorges and the Dam. Also included are flights within China for the 8 days touring the major Chinese cities, all meals, all excursions, sight seeing and all admissions to major attractions, staying at 5 star hotels plus all meals. The group will visit Shanghai, Chongking, Xi'an and Beijing. The major attractions to be visited include the Terra Cotta Warriors, Great Wall, Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Ming Tomb, Summer Palace, Beijing Opera and many more events. Folk dancing will be led by the master teacher, Sandy Starkman and of course Mel Mann will be escorting the group with the help of tour managers. International folk dancing will be enjoyed with the international group of dancers on the trip from England, New Zealand, Canada and the US. Mel helps to arrange for singles to share cabins to keep cost low. For more detailed information contact Mel Mann at (510) 526-4033 or by e-mail at meldancing@aol.com DO NOT DELAY AS THERE IS LIMITED SPACE LEFT.
